Book Review- The Hard Count by Ginger Scott

Nico Medina’s world is eleven miles away from mine. During the day, it’s a
place where doors are open—where homes are lived in, and neighbors love.

But when the sun sets, it becomes a place where young boys are afraid,
where eyes watch from idling cars that hide in the shadows and wicked
smoke flows from pipes.

West End is the kind of place that people survive. It buries them—one at a

time, one way or another. And when Nico was a little boy, his mom always
told him to run.

I’m Reagan Prescott—coach’s daughter, sister to the prodigal son, daughter

in the perfect family.
Life on top.
Lies.
My world is the ugly one. Private school politics and one of the best high
school football programs in the country can break even the toughest souls.
Our darkness plays out in whispers and rumors, and money and status trump
all. I would know—I’ve watched it kill my family slowly, strangling us for
years.

In our twisted world, a boy from West End is the only shining light.

Quarterback.
Hero.
Heart.
Good.
I hated him before I needed him.
I fell for him fast.
I loved him when it was almost too late.

When two ugly worlds collide, even the strongest fall. But my world…it

hasn’t met the boy from West End.

The Hard Count is story with so much heart, a powerful message told beautifully. I got goosebumps so many times while reading this book.

Reagan Prescott passion is film making, her current project is showing a inside look into her high school's football team. She wants to capture it all. When her brother, the quarterback, is injured, Reagan wants to convince her father, the coach, that a boy from west end, a boy that argues with her in class every chance he gets, is the answer to saving the team. She sees something in him, she believes in him, and knows that Nico can do great things, and not just on the field. Nico Medina, is amazing on that football field. But will the school, the team, and the town give this boy a chance to shine, or will they judge him before they even know him.

Beautiful, deep, real, The Hard Count is a story that you need to read. From the words, its message, the authors writing, to the way she makes you feel like your on that field during a game, and all the captivating characters. You can feel that Ginger put so much heart into this book, its felt in every word and every time you flip the page, rushing to take in more of this world.

Nico & Reagan are two amazing characters separately, but together their magic. The banter and the connection these two share is very beautiful. Reagan is a wonderful, awkward and talented character, with a big heart. She stands up for what she believes in, she's the backbone of her family. And she see's everyone as equal, and fights to show others that they should too. She's a book heroine that will live in many of our hearts, I know she will in mine. Now for Nico, where to start. Nico was my favorite part of this book. Hands down. He is a character that people need to experience. Nico is smart, charming, loves his family deeply, he works hard, and that shows on the football field and in everything he does. He pushes back, he fights for what is right, and he rises above all that is thrown his way. Nico, like Reagan, is a character that I will carry with me.
